ANGELINA WU - KAKATHELABEL

By Neath Kiem & Nita Kiem 03/23/23

Showing in NYFW in only her first year at Parsons School of Design, this Beijing born designer should be on your radar. KAKA The Label was featured in Vogue Mexico and Harper's Bazaar in its first year of Inception after debuting in Vancouver Fashion week 2 months after its launch.

When did your love for fashion begin?

Growing up, I've always loved drawing, especially clothes and shoes. In elementary school I would cut up my t-shirts and make them fringed etc.

Have you always wanted to be a designer?

Since the third grade.

When did you start KAKA The Label?

2021, in my junior year of high-school.

What is the meaning behind KAKA the LABEL?

KAKA The Label embodies a playful attitude, and a sense of kitsch n' glam with a rebellious twist.

Who inspired you to design?

Probably my mum, I've always loved her sense of style and her closet.

Where do you see KAKA The Label heading?

Honestly...I'm not sure. I would love to see it grow with me as I pursue my BFA.

What is your creative process like?

I usually find a set of images that inspire me, even if they're not super cohesive, and I like to make collages with the cutup images to hopefully create juxtapositions.

Top 3 designers you look up to?

Guo Pei, Jeremy Scott, Prada.

Do you plan on going to grad school?

Maybe... I'd love to study in Europe!

When do you plan to release the new collection?

April 2023.
